Annual European Union sustainability survey seeks views to shape post-election policy

  • Published on January 12, 2024

The One Planet Network are pleased to support our partner, the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP), with their survey on the European Union's sustainability policies in advance of the upcoming 2024 EU elections. Views are sought on the survey which will measure the scale and impact of policies - including sustainable production and consumption (SCP) - on Europe and the wider world.

The One Planet Network continues to enjoy a productive partnership with the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP), and we are pleased to invite members to participate in this year's edition of their survey into the European Green Deal—the European Union's package of major funding and reforms related to environmental sustainability, climate action, and green transition. Your valuable insights will contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the ongoing initiatives and their impact, fostering collaboration towards a more sustainable future.

The European Green Deal supports sustainable consumption and production (SCP) through circular economy, resource efficiency, and green technology initiatives, whilst addressing environmental challenges by encouraging responsible resource use and enforcing regulatory measures for sustainability standards across sectors.

This annual survey - now in its 4th edition - assesses the progress of the European Green Deal and provides recommendations for its continued implementation. The upcoming European elections this year will result in a renewed policy agenda in the EU and will shape the future funding, legislative scope, and implementation of the European Green Deal and its SCP-aligned aims. This survey will review perceptions on progress and ambition to support policy formation by gathering views from sustainability experts and examining political trends on the European Union’s progress towards implementing the European Green Deal and its constituent policies.

With the upcoming EU elections due to shape the next phase of the European Green Deal, the IEEP highlights the importance of this data in understanding the impact and future needs for the Green Deal both in the EU and its impact on non-European countries.

The confidential survey will likely take 15-20 minutes and can be paused and continued across several sittings. Submissions are welcome until Monday 5th February 2024.
